"Harvest is past, summer is over, yet we are not saved." (Jeremiah 8:20 TLV)

It is so hard to believe that in just a few short weeks summer will be over and we will be entering into a new Hebraic Year and the High Holy days. And as hard as it is to admit it, that verse above truly expresses what I am feeling today.

To be honest with you all, we are in a time of struggle. Things that should be simple are made complicated by many things not working as they should. On a personal level, we had goals of being moved out of our house and prepared for its demolition and replacement by the end of August, yet here we are with only one week to go, and we are staled yet again with another hurdle. We are aware that the fall rains are coming soon, and the roof on this old house will NOT hold up under another year's rains and snow, especially after damage caused by a freak wind storm last spring. So we face a deadline and have to keep moving forward somehow. So around out normal schedule we are packing and sorting and working on getting set up to winter in a travel trailer. And every day seems to bring another problem.*

Have you gone through a season like that? A season where it feels like nothing you do is making a difference or helping? A season where you have a clear, attainable goal, that is confirmed over and over as the right direction and yet still seems to be blocked?

If so, welcome to the club! God has never promised us that life would be easy. If he had, James would not have written “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12 ESV)

Part of remaining steadfast, is continuing on the path that God has given us. And that path is leading us right into a new Year and the High Holy Days.

The month of Elul, and the next forty days are a time of preparation. A preparation for a new year, and a new encounter with our God and King!

During Elul (beginning Sunday, September 1st) the Shofars will be sounded daily from the sanctuary at 6:15 pm (except on Shabbat.) Anyone is welcome to join us in this prophetic act, calling out for repentance and preparation for the coming of our King! All are also welcome to join us for any and all of the upcoming Fall Festivals. Times and days are on the enclosed flyer! Plan NOW to come, set the time apart on YOUR calendar to accept the challenge of keeping time with God in the coming year.

5780 in Hebrew looks like this: תש״פ   The number 80 is represented by the letter פ Pey, which is a
picture of mouth. It is from the mouth of God, that that which will be is spoken. And it is out of the heart that the mouth speaks. I do believe that this is going to be a season where we need to pay attention to what is being spoken, and to what we are speaking in this coming year, and in the next decade. To hear more on that, join us for Rosh Hashanah!

Until then, we are giving you some suggested Scripture readings for this time of preparation and a guide for the Festivals of the year 5780. And we pray God's blessings for you and yours.
